Workforce Scheduling Drives Business Outcomes

Jayson Saba of the Aberdeen Group recently stated that almost 70% of organizations are using automated time keeping systems yet less than 30% of these organizations have implemented automated scheduling to optimize their workforce. In a report entitled, “Workforce Scheduling 2011: Automation Drives Accuracy, Efficiency and Business Outcomes”, Aberdeen goes on to build a strong business case for automated workforce scheduling stating that it helps reduce unplanned overtime, increases compliance including adherence to collective bargaining, and improves productivity by reducing the burden of the scheduling process.

Not compelling enough?
It’s not just about automating your workforce schedule, it’s about aligning a solution to match your business goals. An optimized workforce can provide business benefits that are vast and extend to:

• the ability to identify the actual cost of labor as part of the overall product cost which can lead to decreased product costs and improved margins;

• improved customer satisfaction due to being able to respond to fluctuations in demand;

• increased employee satisfaction due to increased visibility and control over one’s schedule;

• reduced turnover due to fairly scheduling employees and providing transparency to the scheduling process;

• increased workforce utilization helps support the goal of having your full-time workforce working full-time all year round which can mean significant savings in benefit payouts.

So why are so few organizations using automated scheduling?
We frequently hear from customers that have tried implementing workforce scheduling solutions either internally or with other vendors and that these attempts have been at great effort and significant expense but have failed. There is a belief that no solution can handle the unique scheduling complexities of some organizations. Even if two facilities produce the same products, they may have different work rules or bargaining agreements. Many manufacturers have multiple classifications of employees, numerous unique job types with various job qualifications and different base schedules that vary by department.  Now add in the complexity of tracking rules from collective bargaining agreements, employee skills and qualifications, overtime and both planned and unplanned time-off requests and you can understand why many of our customers were skeptical that their organization could be automated.

Why ScheduleSoft
We are the only workforce scheduling solution that can automate 100% of these complexities. We know this because that’s exactly what our software was developed to do and that’s what our customers are telling us. We help organizations schedule the right employees with the appropriate qualifications to produce the products that are scheduled all the time.
